  • Rockford is the oldest town in Mercer County
  • Town was founded as Shanesville in 1820 by Anthony Shane, a French Ottawa Indian.
  • First town in the county to have street lights
  • At one time the town had its own power plant, airport, and opera house
  • An old log home sitting on land that was once Anthony Shane’s grant and was believed to be his home is now a historical site.

  • A New K-12 school building was constructed in 2006.
  • Over 6000 vehicles travel through the village of Rockford each day
  • A Main Street reconstruction project was started in 1999
  • A new water tower was installed in 2000
